Outdoor PoE cameras are the eyes of the system. Make sure they support the standard PoE power supply. They should also have a protection rating that is good for outdoor use.
PoE switches are the heart of the system; three key factors need to be considered when selecting them:
The number of ports should be slightly more than the current number of cameras to allow for expansion;
A good power budget is important. It makes sure the total output power is more than the maximum power use of all cameras. Switches supporting the PoE+ standard are better suited for high-power cameras;
Unmanaged switches work well for simple projects. Managed switches are better for complex projects. They allow for easier remote management and troubleshooting.
Network cable quality is the most easily overlooked yet crucial aspect of outdoor PoE deployment. Pure copper core network cables of Category 5e or higher must be selected; Category 6 cables are strongly recommended.
Absolutely avoid using copper-clad aluminum or copper-clad iron network cables. These materials resist electricity well.
