This article mainly introduces the concept, application and characteristics of Ethernet switches.

Ethernet switch
A switch based on Ethernet data transmission. Ethernet is a local area network that uses a shared bus transmission media.
It can connect multiple pairs of ports simultaneously. Each pair of hosts can communicate without conflict, as if they had their own dedicated communication channel.

Ethernet switch

Concept:
The switching hub that came out in 1990 can significantly improve the performance of the local area network.
Switching hubs are often called Ethernet Switches or second-layer switches.
Note that the "Ethernet switch" referred to here is a switch with a transmission bandwidth of less than 100Mbps. "Fast Ethernet switch", "Gigabit Ethernet switch" and "10 Gigabit Ethernet switch" are actually Ethernet switches. The protocols and transmission methods used are different, as well as their interface forms.

Application:
Ethernet switches are the most widely used, the price is relatively cheap, and the grades are complete. The application field is extremely wide, and people can see them in large and small LANs.
It usually has several to dozens of ports, which is essentially a multi-port bridge.
In addition, its port speed can be different and its working mode can be different. It can provide 10M, 100M bandwidth, half-duplex, full-duplex, adaptive working mode, etc.

Features:
1.Its structure is that each port is directly connected to the host and generally works in full-duplex mode.
2. The switch can connect multiple ports at the same time, so hosts can communicate without any data conflicts.
3. The user has exclusive bandwidth of the transmission media. Each interface on the switch has a bandwidth of 10Mbit per second. The biggest advantage of this switch is the total capacity of 10 interfaces with 100 Mbit/s.

The above is an introduction to the concept, application and characteristics of Ethernet switches.
